What is hyaluronic acid for skin?

Hyaluronic acid is a glycosaminoglycan naturally present in the human body, a component of connective tissues (skin, cartilage, synovial fluid, eye ...), 50% are located in the skin, mainly in the dermis. It plays a major role in terms of hydration and keeping the elasticity and viscosity of the cellular environment. Also present in the epidermis, but in much smaller quantities, it fills the intercellular spaces.

Hyaluronic acid what is it

What does acid hyaluronic acid do for the skin?

Very long molecule, one of its main properties is to capture and retain water (it is "hygroscopic"), it is the "sponge" of the skin, of the dermis, it guarantees its hydration (if we drink enough to hydrate it, the water comes from inside !!!).

It also ensures plump skin but its natural quantity decreases with age and also its quality (the molecular chains break down and lose viscosity and elasticity)! Between 40 and 50 years old, it is estimated that the amount of hyaluronic acid in the body has reduced by 50% causing wrinkles and dryness.

Within the dermis, it contributes to revive the synthesis of collagen and endogenous. It, therefore, helps to densify, firm and plump the skin from the inside. Within the epidermis, it stimulates cell activity and multiplication and accelerates the healing process if there is an injury.

 How to use hyaluronic acid

What is Hyaluronic acid in cosmetics?

Due to the length of its chain, it penetrates very little, if at all, into the skin. It remains on the surface where it forms a hydrating film which prevents dehydration by retaining surface water and plumps up by its "gel" effect.

To get an action within the epidermis, many cosmetic brands use "low molecular weight" hyaluronic acid, fractionated so that the less bulky molecule can pass through the skin barrier. Thus, it is supposed to partially penetrate the epidermis, only at the level of the superficial stratum corneum.

However, even if the size of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid is smaller than a conventional hyaluronic acid, it still remains large and very hydrophilic. It will hardly pass the superficial barrier of the skin ... mostly oily and reluctant to let watery ingredients slip in! If it passes a few micrograms of this low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, it will certainly help to slow down the aging process by promoting cellular activity.

The most effective way to limit fine lines and wrinkles is, from 16 - 18 years old, and every day, prevention, protection against the sun and good hydration and nutrition of the skin. Massage is also one of the essential techniques for maintaining good skin quality, by promoting lymphatic drainage, blood circulation, and cell renewal.

What is the best use of acid hyaluronic for the skin?

BB Gel with Hyaluronic acid

In cosmetics, its interest is therefore mainly moisturizing and superficial plumping, this is why it has been added in the Complexion Perfecting treatment: the BB Face Cream.

Dispersed in powder form within the gel made of vegetable oils, hyaluronic acid is not hydrated. However, once applied on the skin, it will hydrate on contact with 10-15% of water naturally present in the superficial stratum corneum and the hydrolipidic film as well as in contact with atmospheric water. By hydrating, it will swell and thus blur fine lines and surface imperfections, while ensuring good surface hydration. It plumps the skin on the surface and smoothes it ... for the day.

It is in this form that it is most effective in blurring irregularities and fine lines.

What are the other benefits of acid hyaluronic?

Acid hyaluronic is also a powerful antioxidant. Free radicals are created by external oxidative stress, pollution, and the sun. They will "attack" the long chains of hyaluronic acid and cut them. All free radicals that attack hyaluronic acid will therefore not attack your skin cells. It is, therefore, a "protective" antioxidant, firewall, perfectly suited to fight against pollution and external sources of stress.

 Do I need hyaluronic acid

In summary, the hyaluronic acid contained in a cosmetic ...

… Is an excellent moisturizer, plumping surface, antioxidant, it helps to make the skin smooth and beautiful and delays its aging, but most of the time it will struggle to penetrate the skin and act on the wrinkle formation.

In our BB Tinted Radiance Gel, by hydrating after application, it helps to blur surface irregularities, fine lines and thus ensure a smoother and well-hydrated skin. A good-looking effect, comfort and softness of the skin guaranteed - 😊.
